Take my prime minister. Please.
The ICC is coming for Bibi Netanyahu. I'm glad. But don't be fooled by his crying: Bibi is not the victim in this war. The rest of us are.
When I heard the news today that the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Israeli PM Bibi Netanyahu, I knew what his press release would say. Even before his office released it, I knew exactly how Bibi would respond to being called out for his appalling actions. I knew because he’s been doing it during this whole war — actually, during his entire tenure as PM, and in fact for his entire career as a talking head of Israel and Zionism.
The Exact. Same. Thing. Every time.
And that is, when someone challenges him for his actions, instead of addressing the issues, he goes on the attack, dog-whistle antisemitism, and claim to be the victim.
And in fact that is exactly what he did. Not only did he invoke antisemitism, but he went even further and called himself “Dreyfus.” As if to suggest that he is being publicly hanged on the altar of antisemitism, that he is a hero of the Jewish people, an icon of valor, a Zionist star. Blah blah blah.
Don’t believe it. Bibi is just using this toxic tactic of emotional manipulation like he always does. Every time. Why? Because it works. He weasels his way out of everything by calling it all antisemitism, and then millions of Jews jump up in his defense. It’s already happening. Even opposition leaders are defending him! It’s ridiculous.
Don’t believe the spin. The ICC warrants on not some kind of crazy antisemitic thing — to wit, the arrest warrants were released alongside arrests of Hamas leaders. (The ones who Israel already killed, BTW). So, no, this isn’t some “blame the Jews for everything” thing.
This arrest warrant is about calling out Israel for the incessant bombardment of 2.2 million civilians in Gaza. Destroying their homes. Displacement. Bombing hospitals and schools. Using Palestinians for human shields. And of course the 40+thousand dead, of whom about a third are children. THAT is why Bibi has an arrest warrant after him. He totally deserves it.
Bibi Netanyahu is not the the hero of the Jewish people. He is a menace.
Bibi Netanyahu is not the victim here. You know who the victims are?
The 2.2 million Palestinians who have the misfortune of living in Gaza, including 40k+ dead.
And the 101 hostages.
And their families.
And the soldiers being called up for reserve duty.
And their families.
And the people living in the north.
And the Lebanese.
The truth is, all of Israel are victims of Bibi. He treats our loved ones like cannon fodder. He refuses to listen to voters or protesters. He turns the police against hostage families and leftists. And he has sacrificed not only the hostages but the entire country. All of Israelis being held hostage by his corrupt, evil, and criminal government that refuses to end this bloodbath. Refuses to take responsibility. And refuses to face any kind of accountability for their actions.
The ICC can have him. Take him. Please.
BTW, ICYMI, the 19th century French trial of Alfred Dreyfus in which this Jewish officer was wrongly accused of treason, was a formative event in the life of Zionist founder Theodore Herzl. It is no accident that Bibi is trying to tie himself to Dreyfus. He’s looking to get himself into the history books for eternity.
He just might do that. But not the way he expects. Instead of being known forever as the hero of Israel, Jews, and Zionism, he will be known as the monster that had no appreciation for lives and was willing to sacrifice his own people — and everyone else — on the altar of his ego, his narcissistic megalomania and psychopathic need to hold on to power forever. That is how he will be remembered. As the one who brought destruction in his wake.
How much destruction? We’re still finding out.
Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, the ICC can have him. They can have Bibi. I hope they find him and arrest him.
We need new leadership. And a ceasefire. And a hostage deal. And work towards a long-term peace plan. Right now. Maybe if Bibi goes, we can get finally started on all of that.
