Pre-Sukkot: The Week that Was
The Likud's plan to Judaize Gaza, Orit Struck's indoctrination into death, the IDF soldiers revolting, and more....
Anyone who still believes the propaganda that Netanyahu’s actions are in order to “win” have some tough realities to face this week. The multi-front war continues to escalate and people in Israel are the most unsafe we have ever been in the history of this nation.
Hizbullah attacked several army bases, killing four 19-year-old soldiers and injuring some 60 more. (So much for killing the snake from its head. Nasrallah’s death has had zero impact on restraining Hizbullah.)
Israel and Iran remain in a terrifying penis-wagging competition that will undoubtedly end badly for all of us.
The entire country spent Monday afternoon in bomb shelters.
There are still terror attacks happening.
Hamas has resumed rockets to the Gaza rim.
(ICYMI — Here are my conversations with northern residents Shayna Rehberg-Paquin of Safed and Rabbi Haviva Ner David of Hannaton about what this past month has been like for them.)
Remind me again how this war has made Israelis safer and better off? Oh, yeah, it hasn’t.
And have we mentioned the hostages? Remember the hostages. Oh, yeah…
And to now add to our woes, let’s take a look at how all this has this affected Israel’s relationships with, say, the United States and other allies. Well, let’s see. The US is threatening an arms embargo to Israel within a month. (Blessing in disguise I wonde.) France has already done that and is urging other countries to join them. Canada and the UK have imposed sanctions on Israeli ministers and NGOs. And apparently, according to Bob Woodward’s new book, President Biden said that Bibi Netanyahu is a compulsive liar and he can’t trust anything that he or 18 of his top 19 advisers say, ever. Ok, I’m paraphrasing a bit, but not really. I’ve been writing all year about what it feels like to live in a country where the leader is a psychopath and you’re at war, so this doesn’t surprise me at all. I’m actually glad that Bob Woodward is saying this out loud. For whatever it’s worth.
Those are the main big headlines from Israel this week. But as we know, there is always a lot of news that doesn’t make it to the media, especially not the Israeli media. More deadly attacks in Gaza, secret government meetings to Judaize Gaza, and a terrifying new educational curriculum are among the lesser-seen items worth knowing about. So I’m here to share with you some items from this week that you may have missed.
