Genocide. Yes. We are doing this.

Genocide. Yes. We are doing this.

We, the Israeli people, are committing the appalling and indefensible act of destroying the people of Gaza.

Genocide. Yes. We are doing this.

We cannot talk about anything else right now.

As much as there are a thousand things of serious concern going on in the world right now, this has to be front and center.

We as a people are doing the unthinkable in Gaza.

And we need to keep screaming about this. Screaming, screaming, screaming.

We need to try and make it stop.

Screaming until it stops.

We, the Israeli people, are carrying out a horror in Gaza. Yes, we are.

Palestinians burying their dead, including children, following Israel’s bombing of the Nasser hospital in Khan Younis. Over 300 killed in the past 48 hours. Over 20,000 babies and children killed in Gaza. Dozens of bodies are still trapped under the rubble.

I can’t keep going on with “normal” life while all this is happening. I keep stopping and starting. I keep starting to do other things, I keep sitting down to write about topics that are burning for me. Going about life. I try sometimes. But then there is this. Every day, more killing. More pictures of babies and children who we killed. Of starving children. Of endless landscapes of rubble. Endless killing. That we, Israel, are perpetuating. Day in and day out. And it’s just…. I just can’t….

There are many other things that I would like to write about. Stuff going on in the world that I would very much like to comment on. Edan Alexander. Eurovision. Trump’s new plane. Qatar. Or other things. Reproductive rights in America. Scary arrest of people on the streets in America. Democracy and its demise. Or maybe other things. I’d like to talk about clean energy. About plastic recycling. About books. A class I went to last week. A friend who died. A friend who gave birth. Mental health. Menopause. Beyonce. Anything, really.

I’d like to go back to a time when people could walk down the street and breathe. I’d like to have a normal conversation about life, art, and what it’s like to live. Without thinking too much about, you know, what’s happening just around the corner.

Lots of people do that, actually. Somehow.

But I can’t.

Anyway, shutting your eyes to all that — that’s a privilege.

Having a normal conversation is a privilege.

Eating what you want, when you want, with whoever you want, and a roof over your head — privilege.

Living life as if there is no threat to tens of thousands of babies and children — that is a privilege.

Dozens of people killed overnight in the tent camp in Khan Younis

We could look away if we wanted to. Lots of people are looking away.

But that is a privilege. And it’s wrong.

Don’t look away.

We, the Jewish state, we have killed over 50,000 people in Gaza, including 20,000 children. Some 92% of homes have been destroyed. And countless injured. The destruction goes on and on. And the purposeful starvation continues.

Gaza has now broken the world record for the highest concentration of children with amputated limbs in the world.

Right now, We, Israel, are starving and bombing a nation to death.

Genocide. This is genocide. This is purposeful, deliberate, unrestrained killing of a people.

Jews don’t like to be accused of genocide. It’s so uncomfortable. Isn’t it….

I wish it wasn’t true.

But it is. Our government is doing it. The government of the Jewish state.

Our government is no longer even trying to sound like it cares about humanity. Today, Israel increased the attacks in Gaza, along with the bombastic rhetoric — what Ben Gvir calls “opening the gates of Hell”, as if Gaza isn’t already in hell.

We, Israel, as a nation, have lost all pretense of restraint as our government and our army rampages through Gaza like a robotic killing machine.

In our name.

These so-called leaders are speaking as if they are acting in my name. As if this is what everyone in Israel wants.

Not in my name.

Israelis against genocide

Take a look. This protest is happening right now. Thousands of Israelis are marching along the Gaza border protesting Israeli actions in Gaza.

The signs call for an end to this war, an end to ethnic cleansing and genocide.

Watch as Alon Lee-Green, head of Standing Together, is violently arrested by the police, along with other protesters.

The one bright hope is this. Israelis, facing this reality, and screaming NO MORE!

#NOTINOURNAME

This must end. Now.

#ceasefirenow

One last note.

The longer this goes on — that is, the longer I start to ask some deeper questions. It’s a bit hard. And personal.
